Welcome to our series Golfers We Love. Where we interview women who love the game of golf. Whether they play professionally, work in the industry or just love to play occasionally, we want to share their stories with you!

This week we’re excited to introduce to you the one and only ‘Fit Golfer Girl’ Carolina Romero!

First, thank you so much for answering some questions with us! To start off, when did you start playing golf and how did you get into it?

I grew up in Bogota, Colombia. Both of my parents played golf so it was a natural process for me. I started playing when I was 9, and started competing soon after.

What’s something that golf does for you?

Golf has taught me that all good things take time and hard work. The patience and perseverance that I have learned at the golf course has carried over to all aspects of my life.

How did you become interested in being a fitness trainer? And then how did you decide to shift your focus to golf specific fitness?

I fell in love with fitness in my early 20s and after spending 5 years doing a very unfulfilling job in the financial industry, I decided to change careers.

It was hard and scary but so worth it! After a couple years of being a personal trainer I moved to Boca Raton, FL and realized a lot of my clients were also golfers. As a golfer, I understood their struggles and decided I wanted to use fitness to help them feel better and improve their golf game.

Soon after I started Fit Golfer Girl. I want to show the world that golf fitness doesn’t have to be intimidating and that everyone can benefit from incorporating golf fitness into their life.

What is the biggest problem that you see that the average person has when it comes to fitness and its effect on their golf game?

Weak glutes! About 90% of all my new clients come to me with under active glutes. The glutes are one of the main sources of stability of our body. When properly activated the help maintain our spine stable and safe. Weak glutes can lead lower back pain and an increased risk of injury (Just ask Tiger). At the golf course, it could be the culprit for almost every possible golf swing mistake. It will also rob you of power and distance.

Wow! So moral of the story…work out those glutes! Got it! Now, if you were talking with someone who was thinking about playing golf, what would you tell them to convince them they should play?

I would tell them so invest in a good swing instructor and fitness trainer. Having good technique and mastering the fundamentals from the start will save them a lot of headaches in the future!

Along those same lines. Is there any advice you would give someone who isn’t sure where to start when wanting to start working on their fitness journey to improve their golf game?

I would tell them to stop thinking and start acting. Results take time and effort, but you will not achieve anything unless you start!

Okay…now for some off-topic questions! Let’s get to know you a little more. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Black. Because I am intense and straight forward.

Ooo! Yes! Okay, next one. If you could only choose one song to play every time you walk into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus

Do you have any hobbies besides golf?

Working out! I love lifting weights! It’s the one activity I need to do everyday! (except for my rest day lol)

If you could have any guilty-pleasure food right now, what would it be?

Steak, french fries with ketchup, cheesecake and cake!

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?

I am a very aggressive nose blower. The other day I was blowing my nose at the gym and half the gym turned to look at me. #SorryNotSorry lol

Ha! Well now we know, if we hear loud nose blowing it’s just the Fit Golfer Girl and we’ll keep going about our business. Great story, thank you for sharing that!

We just want to say thank you to Carolina for taking the time to interview with Graceful Golfer. If any of you have any questions that you’d like for us to ask future interviewees or even have a request for an interviewee, comment below and let us know!
