Golfers We Love – Amanda Robertson

Posted: December 16, 2017 by Armana Christianson

Welcome to our series Golfers We Love. Where we interview women who love the game of golf. Whether they play professionally, work in the industry or just love to play occasionally, we want to share their stories with you!

This week, we’d like to introduce you to our good friend and fellow mini tour player and business owner Amanda Robertson!

First, thank you so much for answering some questions with us! To start off, when did you start playing golf and how did you get into it?

I started playing golf when I was sixteen.  I was a softball player and that year they pulled it from the Olympics.  Softball doesn’t have much longevity in the sport so I decided to try golf and continued to work on my game through college.  I fell in love with it and after college decided I had to give it a shot while I could on the tour.

Wow! 16 years old to start playing and now you’re playing at a professional level. That’s pretty impressive. What’s something that golf does for you?

Golf has taught me a lot about myself as a person and as an athlete.  Not only has it taught me patience, it has also taught me that you can’t be afraid of the unknown.  In golf you cannot stand over a shot in fear of what the outcome “might” be and as with life, you should exude confidence in your decision making.  Overall, golf is something that requires full belief in yourself and it has definitely taken me awhile but I believe I have finally gotten closer to this idea.

That’s a pretty important life lesson. Do you have anything you’d like to accomplish with your golf?

My ultimate goal with golf would be to compete at a higher level and play LPGA.  I would really love to tuck a few of those tournaments under my belt.

We love that goal! Maybe because we’re all working towards the same thing (haha). Tell us a little about BackSwing Golf Events. How did your company come about?

BackSwing is my pride and joy.  It is an on course entertainment company that helps charity and corporate golf outings create a unique and fun environment for their players on the course as well as raise money for them.  It all started with McKenzie Lyng and I and a simple idea. We wanted everyone who plays in golf tournaments to walk away with a great experience.  It is common to work charities and pro ams as a professional for side work, so we tried to create a way to help all of our tour friends find gigs and make some extra money to support their golf.  It was a lot of “is this gonna work?” and “Can we make it in this market?” but McKenzie and I believed in the market and our passion for the business side of golf helped get us there.

We may be a little biased, but we love BackSwing. What’s your favorite part of owning a golf company?

My favorite thing about owning a golf company is that it doesn’t pull my attention away from my job as a professional golfer.  The focus is always on what I love most, and that is golf!

That’s a pretty great perk! If you were talking with someone who was thinking about playing golf, what would you tell them to convince them they should play?

Golf is something that grows on you with time.  In the beginning it can seem very overwhelming but once you start to understand the sport you will be hooked.  People have to remember that golf is one of the most social sports and can really be used in many different settings whether it’s recreationally, for business, or competitively driven.

We talk about those things exactly in our Learn to Golf post! We all know what’s up. Okay…now for some off-topic questions! Let’s get to know you a little more. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Sea Breeze Blue- I want people to not only see, but feel how cool this color is.  Plus my favorite color is blue.

Ooo, that’s a good one! Well done. Now, if you could only choose one song to play every time you walk into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Here I Go Again- By Whitesnake

We can just picture it now! Maybe we need to make this into a loop video? Okay, next question. You’re lounging on a lazy Sunday and decide to binge watch a show. What are you watching?

Days of Our Lives

Nice! Love the oldies. Alright, last question! So of course it has to be food related. If you could have any guilty-pleasure food right now, what would it be?

Starbucks Birthday Cake Pops

Thank you so much to Amanda for interviewing with us! It was great to learn just a little bit more about you. If you have any questions that you’d like for us to ask future interviewees or even have a request for an interviewee, comment below and let us know!
